Literally have had only one friend ever where they asked to read my book all on their own. I can’t stress enough how that made me feel - like I actually had potential, like my words were worth reading, like *I* was worth the time it took to read my books. Like the fact that I write matters and like I matter.

I cannot stress how important it is that you be the one to ask to read the writer’s work. Doing so shows you actually care about their writing, and about their dreams and goals. It shows you care about *them*. Please don’t underestimate how the simple act of asking to read a writer’s work can change their entire perception of their decision and need to pursue writing and write.

If you’re like me, it can mean the difference between one day being ready to completely give up everything I love and need about writing, and suddenly realizing that all the aches and pains and heartache and soul-hurt of writing is so, so worth it when you see someone cares enough about you to want to share in what you love and worked hard to create.
