30 Day Writing Meme - Day 4

  1. Tell us about your favorite writing project/universe that you've worked with and why.
  2. How many characters do you have? Do you prefer males or females?
  3. How do you come up with names, for characters (and for places if you’re writing about fictional places)?
  4. Tell us about one of your first stories/characters!
    1. The very first story I remember writing was called "The Prince and Silence". It was written on pink and turquoise* wide-ruled** notebook paper, every other line skipped, in pencil, only on the front of the pages, and was about seven or eight pages long. It was the longest thing I'd ever written, and I remember being boggled that I'd had so much story to tell!*** It was about a prince that got lost in the woods after being injured in some battle, and how he was rescued and nursed back to health by a girl who couldn't talk, and how they fell in love. I haven't read it in ages, and maybe the plot wasn't so cohesive as that, but that's what I was trying to write. And it was illustrated! At the time, all my drawings were only in profile and looked an awful lot like old medieval illustrations anyway, so the classic fantasy setting of a medieval-type indistinct Europe was appropriate to the style.
    2. It wasn't much, really, but it was enough to get me to see that I needed to figure how how this writing thing worked, because it was awesome.
      1. *That dates the manuscript quite precisely; when was the last time anyone saw pink and turquoise notebook paper available enough that a twelve-year-old would have them in her school notebook?
      2. **Ugh, wide-ruled. The bane of my existence since I switched from looseleaf paper to composition books for my daily writing.
      3. ***I think if I went back in time and told that weird little girl that in twenty years she would have just finished and be revising almost 600 pages of typed story, she'd probably stop writing right there out of sheer terror.
  5. By age, who is your youngest character? Oldest? How about “youngest” and “oldest” in terms of when you created them?
  6. Where are you most comfortable writing? At what time of day? Computer or good ol’ pen and paper?
