School Report: Fifth week of fifth term

This is part of an ongoing series of school progress reports. Click the tag for more!

All this week, despite the fact that I've hardly had any time for school because of babysitting and getting a cold and family distractions, I've been thinking about Twitter as part of a platform for a writer. If you follow me on Twitter, you might have noticed that I've been around more. I like Twitter; I should have been around more anyway!

It's been good for contacting other up and coming writers, and other TV reviewers. It's been great for contacting people in other genres and getting their view of things--sometimes things are very different outside of specfic, or even just outside of fantasy, where I spend all my time.

I feel like I'm parroting the party line a little on this topic, but I've been on Twitter for a few years now, and even though it's basically like talking in a crowded room and trying to get someone to hear you, it's also loaded with information and friendly people, and it seems like 4/5ths of it is writers. It's so nice to have daily contact with other people who are writing.

I'll be glad when I don't have to so consciously think about social media, though!

Balance continues to be a problem. I's starting to just understand that balancing things is not a strong suit of mine, and I need to always pay attention to it--I don't want to, because I have enough on my mind already, but we've also been talking about how writers need to have non-writing things to do and think about, and how we need to be active to keep our minds healthy, and how we need to pay attention to what our bodies are telling us. I'm finally getting that message. Even though I'm still not sleeping well. Or eating well. I am exercising* more, though!

I'm thinking maybe I'll take up running. Doctor Who, Harry Dresden and super hero movies make a pretty good argument about being able to run. Not that slogging down the side of the road crap, though--something more like mountain-goating down hills and bolting in a new direction at the drop of a hat.

But I digress.

The book is going well, if slowly, because I finally hit a task I haven't done before. Revisions are still weird, but I'm enjoying doing them...I just have to get into it, and that means I have to have a decent chunk of time. I won't let lack of time make it crappy.

On the other hand, I'm starting to feel over-done only focusing on that one story. I want to start the next one, and I think I'll assuage the feeling with a short story or two this week, if I have time**. I want to get publishing again before I graduate and get cast to the winds to fend for myself. I like the structure of school, but I can't stay in this program forever.***

How was your week?

*I always write this word with a z. Is that just me being weird, or is it another relic of learning all my spelling in the UK?
**This is the week most of the shows I review come back, so it'll be interesting finding time.
***I can, however, start looking at Library Science and Archiving schools, and thinking about how to apply to them...
